The short answer
Choose Mammotion for yards with trees, buildings or tight corners: every model has LiDAR, and every LUBA climbs 80% slopes. Choose Navimow for open lawns and lower prices: free network RTK, a 3-year warranty, the 84% X4 for big steep lawns and AWD models from $999.
Navimow and Mammotion are the two brands that made wire-free mowing mainstream, and together they account for more searches than any other robot mower brands in our research. They take different routes: Navimow builds around network RTK (satellite positioning corrected over the mobile network) with cameras, while Mammotion puts a 360° LiDAR scanner on every current model. Here is how their US ranges compare, from published specs and reviews; see how we research.
The short answer by yard
| Your yard | Better pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Small, steep or shaded (up to 0.37 acre) | Mammotion LUBA mini 2 AWD | LiDAR + AWD for 80% slopes and an edge disc |
| Small, open, tight budget | Navimow i206 / i210 AWD | AWD and no antenna from $999 |
| Mid-size with trees | Mammotion LUBA 3 AWD 3000 | LiDAR + network RTK + cameras |
| 1 acre or more, very steep | Navimow X430 / X450 | 84% rating, 17-inch cut |
Navigation
Every current Mammotion mower has LiDAR, which measures the surroundings with a laser and keeps working under trees and next to walls. The LUBA 3 AWD 3000 and 5000 add network RTK for open areas. Navimow's i2 AWD and X4 rely on network RTK with cameras; only the i215 LiDAR adds a laser scanner. In heavily shaded yards, that favors Mammotion. In open lawns both work well, and Navimow's approach is cheaper.
Slopes and terrain
All Mammotion LUBA models have four in-wheel motors and an 80% slope rating. Navimow's X4 goes further, to 84% with suspension and 2.8-inch obstacles, but its i-series models stop at 45%. Mammotion's YUKA mini 2 is rear-wheel drive and also rated for 45%.
Cutting
The X4's 17-inch cut is the widest here, with automatic height from 0.75 to 4 inches. The LUBA 3's 15.7-inch two-disc deck comes in Standard (1.0–2.7 in) or High (2.2–4.0 in) versions, chosen when you buy. Small models cut 7.1 to 8.7 inches; the LUBA mini 2 AWD adds an edge disc that mows to about 2 inches from walls, while reviewers say the YUKA mini 2 leaves strips along edges.
Where each falls short
GearDiary found the X430 heavy (64 lb), leaving trimming around obstacles and offering few striping patterns. Owners of earlier Mammotion LUBAs report occasional trapping and slow repairs when parts were short; the LUBA 3 is too new for a long-term record.
