Our verdict
The Mammotion LUBA 3 AWD 3000 is the best robot mower for most mid-size lawns: LiDAR, network RTK and cameras, all-wheel drive for 80% slopes and no wire or antenna. For the steepest or largest lawns choose the Navimow X430 or X450; for small steep yards the LUBA mini 2 AWD; on a budget the Navimow i206 or i210 AWD.
Robot mowers no longer need a wire buried around the lawn. The best models find their way with satellite positioning (RTK), laser scanners (LiDAR) or cameras, climb slopes that would tip a riding mower, and mow on a schedule without you. We ranked current US models on the makers' published specs, independent reviews and owner reports, using the scores in our method. We did not test these mowers ourselves, and no brand paid for a place on this list.
How to choose
- Lawn size first. Each mower is rated for a maximum area. Pick one rated for your whole lawn, with some margin for complicated shapes.
- Then your steepest slope. Rear-wheel-drive mowers are usually rated for 30% to 45%. For steeper banks you need all-wheel drive: the LUBA, X4, A3 AWD and 435 iQ AWD are rated for 70% to 84%.
- Then trees and buildings. Satellite-only positioning (RTK) can drift in heavy shade. LiDAR keeps working there; see RTK vs LiDAR vs camera.
- Check what you have to install. None of these needs a boundary wire. Husqvarna's iQ needs its own reference station; Navimow and Mammotion use network RTK instead.
- Budget for running costs. Blades, cellular service after the free period and maybe a garage. Our guide to whether robot mowers are worth it adds it all up.

Also worth knowing
- eufy E15: the easiest setup (cameras only), but only for small, flat lawns of fine grass; see our eufy E15 review.
- Lymow One Plus: tracks for 45° (100%) slopes; see best for hills.
- Worx Landroid Vision: camera-guided and sold in the US from $1,599.99, but every model was listed as sold out on Worx's US store on October 17, 2026, so we haven't ranked it.
Older wired mowers are not on this list: wire-free models now cost about the same and save hours of installation.
