About Husqvarna

Husqvarna sold robot mowers long before the new wire-free brands appeared, and its Automower range is still the reference many dealers recommend. The US iQ series uses EPOS, Husqvarna's satellite RTK system: a reference station (included) lets the mower follow a virtual boundary you set in the app, so you don't need a boundary wire. A physical wire is still an option.

The current range

Model Lawn size Slope (inside / boundary) List price
Automower 410 iQ 0.5 acre 45% / 15% $2,599.99
Automower 420 iQ 1 acre 45% / 15% $3,299.99
Automower 440 iQ 2 acres 45% / 15% $4,299.99
Automower 435 iQ AWD 1.3 acres 70% / 50% $4,999.99

Strengths

  • Warranty and service. A 4-year warranty, a 100-day money-back guarantee when bought direct, and a nationwide dealer network.
  • Big lawns. The 440 iQ covers 2 acres and can mow up to 24 hours a day.

Weak points

The rear-wheel-drive iQ models are rated for only 15% slopes at the boundary. EPOS needs a good view of the sky to keep the mower on its virtual boundary. One detailed review of the 420 iQ logged more error codes than rival mowers and found the EPOS station needs its own outlet and ground stake. Prices are also higher than newer brands with all-wheel drive and LiDAR.
